Our orphans coming back from school

Big family picture

Welcome to the Paida Orphanage in North-Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Our mission

Provide shelter to children who have no one to care for them and provide them with basic nutrition, health care and education.

Our children

In January 2020 we accommodate 18 children between the age of 2 months to 7 years in our orphanage. Moreover with the help of our kind donors, four of the children are going to school on a daily basis. However due to the insecurity and Ebola disease in our city of Beni, all orphans remain evacuated in Butembo-Musienene since August 2016, a city around 50 kilometers west from Paida. The move was initially a challenge to maintain continuity with the ongoing education, but they have now settled well in Musienene and have resumed classes for the children attending primary school. Unfortunately, we are not aware of any positive developments that may improve the security situation in the near future, so it seems likely that the children will remain in Musienene for the foreseeable future.

***** Latest update *****

We recently received additional donations from the Swiss communes of Veyrier, Grand Saconnex, Avusy and Bernex.

We thank all our donors for their support with the construction of the new school. Your contribution is valuable to bring education to our remote region.

We are continuing the construction of our new school!

In July 2019 we have finished the construction of classrooms 9 and 10 and of the library thanks to the donations received in 2017 and 2018!

The school construction project is over 75% completed, with 10 classrooms, administration offices and the latrines for the whole school complex already finished. However the project is not yet finalised and all financial contributions are more than welcome!!

In 2018, an Ebola broke out in North Kivu and affected Butembo-Musienene and Beni-Paida. Though International Health Authorities have gathered experience to contain the disease in various West African countries in 2017, the uniquely instable security situation limits their capabilities, creating a very dangerous situation. Our local partners understand the risks of the disease, take the danger very seriously, and take all mitigation measures possible. We hope that the disease will not affect our orphanage and school.
